DISCUSSION 1 : Ms TRUNCHBULL
MATILDA BY ROALD DAHL
A caring, responsible, critically reflective and accountable teacher. Now what does this mean? in order for you to understand these attributes of a teacher, it is important that I define the conceptual framework of teachers. The conceptual framework states that teachers must be prepared to become caring, accountable and critically reflective educational practitioners who are able to support and nature learning and development in diverse educational context. This means that as a teachers must be able to communicate with learners at a personal level while maintaining the professional teacher-learner relationship. they must be able to play a role of a parent to them, accept personal responsibility learners' success, take on an extended teacher role, even outside the classroom and be persistent with learners by encouraging them to be the best they can be.
But how do you know that a teacher is a caring teacher? caring teachers know their learners. They know their names, status at home, how they live, their challenges, notice likes and dislikes, they give love to their learners by taking care of them (this includes wiping tears, preventing bullying, making sure that learners drank water etc.), they make sure that every child is accommodate in class and they actively listen to their learners. responsible teachers teach learners positive behavior, they lead by example, they make sure that their learners get quality education and that their classroom enhances the process of teaching and learning, a learner's imagination, and caters for learners with different learning styles. responsible teachers also make sure that education is inclusive, by that I mean that they include parents in the children's' education.a critically reflective teacher is able to reflect on a lesson presented and come up with ways to improve the lesson presentations to best suit learners with different learning styles and for learning to be effective and improved. accountable teachers are able to include parents in their children's education, develop programs that improve learners' progress.
Ms Truncbull's aggressive behavior is very disappointing and unacceptable in the society of teachers and in the community of education. As the headmaster she is expected to respect her colleagues so that the children can learn that respect is something that should be mutual, you give respect to get respect, but she does not. She uses vulgar language when talking to learners and her colleagues and at times violence, which is wrong. Children should be taught to be respectful and polite to others, they should be taught to live and lead a life that does not have violence. She is not caring because instead of disciplining misbehaving learners, she gives them harmful punishments that lead to children being injured and abused , psychologically, emotionally and physically. Such punishments do not build a learner, instead they make a child more reason to misbehave. Ms Truncbull is not critically reflective because if she was, she would have recalled that there are different learners and Matilda is extraordinary. Her aggressive behavior serves as proof that she does not have passion for teaching, is not a peoples person, cannot work with people (especially children) and she is a threat to the learners' safety and life. Her behavior leads to learners feeling unsafe at school and painting an idea that school is the worst place which a child can go to, and it should not be that way. Schools are meant to be one of the safest places children could go to, if not the happiest. obviously Ms Truncbull has failed to follow the conceptual framework and does not possess any of it's attributes. Thus she does not support education in diverse contexts.www.fb.com
